Understanding polyrhythms

A polyrhythm combines two different rhythmic patterns at the same time.

A common example is playing three evenly spaced notes against two evenly spaced notes.

Start by tapping the two-part pattern with one hand and the three-part pattern with the other.

Practise slowly with a metronome and increase the tempo only when both patterns remain steady.
